THE UNDERGROUND BUILDINGS
  • The greatest part of the fort lies underground at a depth of 30 meters.All 15 surfacing fighting blocks could be reached through a system of underground passage ways,(approximately 3 km in total)
  • Underground barracksprovided shelter for the garrison during hostilities; these were constructed in such a way that there were sleeping wards, kitchen and mess, shower & toilet facilities, recreation area, infirmary and small hospital (with surgery) etc.
  • The fort was also equipped with a power station consisting of six Diesel generators (175 HP each), providing the necessary energy to keep the fortress in operating condition. .
